1, Get winter clothes at second hand shop
Second hand items are usually cheaper than new one, then it could be good way to look for cheaper clothes at second hand shop. Sapporo central area has some shops. My friends especially recommends following shops as these are located at convenient places for tourists and this second hand shop group has been popular for local people in many years. Second hand shop sometimes sells vintage items as well as luxury used brand items which are much expensive than new ones commonly sold at ordinally stores. Please pay attention that the all items in the second hand shop is not always cheaper than new items.

2. Get winter clothes at fast-fashion brands like Uniqlo and GU
Uniqlo and GU which are operated by a same company offers seasonal items such as winter jacket, wool coat and wool sweater, etc with lower price though the quality is very high. Both of them have e-commerce website, then you can check the rough range of the price for each winter items.

By the way, Uniqlo’s ultra light down jacket has been especially getting high popularity in Japan as it is very light but enough warm to spend in winter. After the end of the winter, you can easily fold the jacket and keep putting it into the nylon bag which is attached with the jacket until the next use. It is very handy, just smaller sized than a magazine. If you don’t mind purchasing something new outfit in Sapporo, this jacket is one of the recommended option since it is not bulky, easy to carry and even easy to keep it at small space in your home.
Both Uniqlo and GU are located at ESTA, a shopping mall just next to Sapporo station and pivot which is also a shopping mall close to subway Odori station. From 5th floor to 8th floor of ESTA also has some other cheaper clothing stores, shoes store and interior shop while PIVOT has 100 yen shop, sports goods shop and clothes stores, etc.

3. Anti slip item to walk on the frozen road
If you worry about walking on the frozen road or on the snow, it may be a good way to buy anti slip item to attatch on your shoes. Though Hokkaido local people normally change to winter shoes which have non-slip sole after snow fall around early December, I don’t think tourists also need such shoes for temporal stay in Sapporo and other cities central area in Hokkaido. Anti slip items are usually sold around JPY 1,000 at many places like the airport, JR stations, subway stations and convenience stores. I believe the item is enough helpful rather than purchasing new shoes.
4. Rent winter clothes and items
If you can communicate in Japanese, this website for the rental of winter clothes might be attractive.
I understand purchasing winter clothes looks somehow waste of money for tourists from tropical countries, but rental clothes is not popular in Sapporo so far… I will update the post once get any new solution about how to get winter clothes with lower cost in Sapporo.
